About

Hi! I’m Kathy Bunn. I grew up with Final Fantasy and the early Dragon Warrior games on the NES, and now I’m making a game that brings old-school RPG goodness in bite-sized stories that fit into our busy lives.

Stories from Danger’s Den is the game that randomly generates small fantasy games in thousands of worlds. It’s currently in closed alpha development.

  • Screenshot from a retro-style RPG with a top-down view of the wilderness. The heroine in blue and the warrior in brass armor journey along a mountainous coast filled with trees. They approach a large building.
  • Screenshot of a retro-style RPG with a top-down view. A woman in a white robe adorned with a medic's cross holds a knife. She walks through an eerie, blue-green cave. Behind her is a staircase going up toward the surface. Around the bend, just out of her line of sight, is a staircase going deeper down into the cave.
  • A screenshot from a retro-style RPG. Three monsters on a black screen face the viewer. Below them, a window announces their arrival: "Madroot Ginger emerged! Madroot Beet emerged! Buglin Bandit emerged!" The Madroot Ginger looks like a giant carrot with two legs and a tail. It has bushy green foliage on top, wild eyes, and a gaping mouth with little teeth. The Madroot Beet, in the middle of the lineup, is also a root creature. Its root body is red and its foliage is dark purple. It has stout arms that look like they pack a wallop! On the right is the Buglin Bandit, a gray ant-man holding a pointy dagger in one of its four arms. It's wearing a green tunic and boots that match its compound eyes.
  • Screenshot of a town in a retro-style game with a top-down view. An enchantress has walked into a restaurant with 4 dining tables, some of which people are sitting at. The enchantress speaks to the host at the counter. A text box shows that the host says, "Welcome to Vumo's Eatery! What can I help you get?"
  • Screenshot from a retro-style top-down video game. A soldier in blue armor and a man wearing a brown cape emerge from the forest and climb onto a hill. The bridge in front of them spans a river; the river forks just south of the bridge.
  • Top-down view in an NES-style retro RPG. Two adventurers explore the upper floor of an abandoned fortress. The young woman in front wears a tan helmet and a pink cape, and wields a shortsword. Behind her is a woman carrying a simple wooden staff and wearing a flowing robe and a headwrap. A menu to the side of them is open, and a status window above them reveals that their names are Dija and Uma, respectively. Both are level 1 and have endured some mild battle wounds.
  • Battle screen in a retro-style turn-based game. The player has selected "Attack", and is being prompted to select a monster to attack. The monsters, labeled Puffly A, Puffly B, and Puffly C in the menu, look like yellow puff balls with little purple bat wings and long tails. They grin mischievously.

Each game is procedurally generated: it takes place in a unique world, and has its own story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. All share a charming 8-bit-style aesthetic and an approachable turn-based play style. The result: a winning combination of nostalgia and novelty.
